Well, it finally happened. The first significant snowfall of the season fell last week and it was the first opportunity for me to shovel my driveway. However, unlike previous winters where I had agonized over the task, there was something different about this season. I’m new to the industry; I started at Pro-Tech in June 2011. The experiences I’ve had since joining the company have given me a new outlook on shoveling at home. In years past there was no thought put into my shoveling. Like probably most people, I simply put the shovel down and threw the snow wherever I could move it. Last year I wouldn't have recognized the similarities between snow removal with a Pro-Tech Sno Pusher and shoveling my driveway.
But this season is different. I was asking myself: “Where is the best place to pile snow in relation to drifting and in which direction the wind blows?”, “What pushing pattern is most effective?" I was also thinking about whether or not I was pushing my shovel level to the ground. I began to actually enjoy myself and on top of that, I also cut the amount of time it takes me to shovel my driveway in half. Experiences like this continue to fuel the respect I have for Sno Fighters and the passion that I have for this industry. The takeaway here is the basic principle that you should never stop evaluating the way you remove snow, no matter what level it’s at, whether you are a newbie like me or a seasoned professional. Oh, and remember to keep the noise down when pretending to be a skidsteer when shoveling your driveway; my neighbors now think I’m crazy.
